PIHP
What is a PIHP?
PIHP is an acronym for Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan, a term contained in federal regulations from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It means an entity that 1) provides medical services to enrollees under contract with the state Medicaid agency on the basis of prepaid capitation payments, 2) includes responsibility for arranging inpatient hospital care, and 3) does not have a comprehensive risk contract.
Effective January 1, 2014, Michigan has ten (10) PIHPs, responsible for managing the Medicaid resources for behavioral health and intellectual/developmental disabilities services for Medicaid and Healthy Michigan enrollees.
