Engagement Specialist-Recovery Coach

We are the community behavioral health organization responsible for the delivery of mental health, substance abuse treatment coordination, and developmental disabilities services for Kent County. We need individuals who are passionate about making a difference by helping others.

We are seeking an Engagement Specialist-Recovery Coach that will be located at Mel Trotter Ministries. The staff will provide support in the two areas listed below:

1.- The Engagement Specialist will work in the New Hope Sobering Center located at Mel Trotter Ministries, where individuals who are actively intoxicated and/or have recently used alcohol or other drugs can safely recover from acute intoxication. The specialist will engage with individuals accessing the center, perform needs assessments, complete recovery plans, and refer individuals to appropriate services.

2.- The Engagement Specialist will ensure individuals understand their care, assist them with medical follow through, build rapport and follow up after appointments to encourage honest/accurate communication and reporting of symptoms/problems to the medical team. Specialist will help determine which individuals may need to be directed to behavioral health screening and assist them in accessing care. They will help move individuals towards harm reduction, wellness, and readiness for treatment.

This position is full-time, 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 8 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Certified Peer Recovery Mentor or willingness to create a plan to obtain State Certification as a Peer Recovery Mentor within two years of employment
In stable recovery
Actively participating in a recovery program (12 step, church/spiritual, or other recovery support group)
Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use
Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued
Knowledge and skills sufficient for establishing effective relationships with consumers who have a substance use disorder, their families, and team members
Knowledge about substance use disorders as it pertains to recovery and crisis planning
Basic computer skills
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Good problem-solving skills
